Blue Rain Gallery is pleased to present a special Guadalupe Street Feature exhibition showcasing new paintings by Rimi Yang and new glass sculpture by Shelley Muzylowski Allen. Though working in distinct mediums, both artists explore the spaces between reality and imagination, inviting viewers into worlds where memory, symbolism, and intuition converge.

Korean-American artist Rimi Yang creates richly layered paintings that navigate the complexities of identity, history, and human connection. Born and raised in Osaka, Japan, and now based in California, Yang draws from both Eastern and Western artistic traditions, blending figurative imagery with abstraction in compositions that feel simultaneously familiar and enigmatic. Her meditative process allows creativity to take precedence over narrative, resulting in paintings that celebrate intuition, vulnerability, and the search for meaning. Through carefully constructed brushwork, Yang dissolves boundaries between past and present, structure and spontaneity, offering viewers a contemplative journey through universal themes of love, protection, innocence, and belonging.

Complementing Yang’s paintings are the extraordinary glass sculptures of Shelley Muzylowski Allen, whose work pays tribute to the enduring relationship between animals, mythology, and human culture. Combining her background in painting with decades of experience in studio glass, Allen creates evocative sculptures that embody both strength and grace. Horses, elephants, gazelles, and other creatures emerge as symbols carrying stories across generations, recalling folklore, spiritual traditions, and the natural world. Adorned with painted surfaces, patinas, and mixed-media elements, her sculptures blur the line between fine art and artifact, inviting emotional connection while honoring the mystery and majesty of animal life.
