Presented in Partnership with Glass Alliance-New Mexico
Celebrated for her expressive sculptural works honoring the presence and spirit of animals, Shelley Muzylowski Allen will share insights into her artistic origins, her introduction to glass at the renowned Pilchuck Glass School, and the evolution of her creative practice. Trained originally as a painter, Allen found in glass a medium capable of capturing both luminosity and emotional depth, allowing her to merge painting, sculpture, and storytelling into singular works of art.
Her sculptures, often depicting horses, elephants, and other animals, combine blown and sculpted glass with rusted metals, hair, and richly textured surfaces. Through these layered materials, Allen explores themes of strength, stillness, memory, and connection to the natural world.
An award-winning artist whose work has been exhibited internationally and included in major collections, Shelley Muzylowski Allen continues to push the boundaries of contemporary glass through her innovative and deeply personal approach to the medium.
