Coconut Pot

Natural clay and pigments, 5"h x 6"dia, Item No. 22441,

My “coconut pot” is probably the most simplest pot I made with the silliest inspiration behind it.  This was the very first pot I made in this class, so I had no clue what I was doing or what direction to take.  The pot is made from Micaceous clay, coil method used and smoothed out with sandpaper.  As I was creating this shape it started to look like a coconut cup.  Then I announced it as my “Coconut Pot” referenced from the television show Gilligan’s Island.  I remember watching this show as a kid, I got a kick out of the silly antics portrayed on the show.  The marooned characters on the island always used coconut cups to drink out of.  The finish on the pot was applied with slip and stone polished, then Bisque fired and completed with an oxidation fire.  Word of caution do not drink out of this cup, this only decorative pottery and not functional pottery.
