The 12th Tara

Oil and gold leaf on aluminum panel, Image: 30"h x 36"w, Framed: 35.5"h x 41.25"w, Item No. 20674,

This is a young Tibetan girl whom I’ve portrayed as the 12th Tara, surrounded by cherry blossoms, dragonflies and birds found in the region, and Mount Everest (the Tibetan name is Chomolungma, meaning "Goddess Mother of the World." )

In Tibetan Buddhism there are 21 Taras (deities) and the 12th Tara is called TASHI DÖNJÉ MA, or what many are currently calling the ‘climate change Tara’. She represents accomplishing Auspiciousness, Bringing Timely Seasons, Prosperity, and Harmony to the Land.
