Kathryn Stedham is a painter of the American West, based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, with over three decades of artistic practice. Grounded in formal academic training as a fine-art oil painter, she is known for monumental landscapes and powerful brushwork, offering a soulful interpretation of the Western landscape. Widely regarded as a modern voice in Western art, she bridges the traditions of historic Western painters with a contemporary vision. Often admired as a painter’s painter, her work reflects a deep commitment to craft.

Her adventurous life deeply informs her art: growing up sailing thousands of miles, living aboard boats, and as a rock climber scaling rugged cliff faces. She traveled the world before finding her home in the Southwest. Today, as an equestrian working closely with horses and a reigning World Champion in Western Dressage—an art of precise, harmonious riding—holding three World Championship titles, she merges her bold journeys with mastery on canvas.

Stedham’s artistic lineage draws inspiration from major Western painters such as Maynard Dixon, Victor Higgins, and Ed Mell along with the pioneering modernists who expanded the visual language of 20th-century art. This rich tapestry underscores her position as a contemporary voice, extending the traditions of Western art into new territory.
