Eric Romero

Romero, a son of New Mexican soil, captures the struggle and spirit of his people through his art. His work reflects the influence of the Old Masters, drawing from Catholicism, ancient mythology , and the realities of life in Nuevo Mexico. Using oil as his medium, he tells stories of resilience and history, embedding symbols within his compositions that speak to deeper meanings. A self-taught artist, Romero combines bold colors and powerful metaphors, creating works of art that reflect the pride and challenges of La Gente. 

Artist statement 

My work explores the relationship between myth, philosophy and culture. With influences of the people and history of the southwest, new insights are distilled from both opaque and transparent structures. 

I have been fascinated by the ephemeral nature of the mind. What starts out as a vision soon becomes a manifesto to pay homage to the power and strength of our cross cultural heritage. Leaving a sense of what has been, the inevitability of a new reality and the metamorphosis of culture and identity. 

Home is where the Soul is at rest. Sandia is a visual representation of the cultural symbiosis in Nuevo Mexico. To those who assimilate, and contribute. To those who show respect and in turn, are given respect.
