About Cecil Miles

Cecil Miles is a Navajo who has permission from the Hopi people to carve Hopi Katsinam. He was taught by one of the greatest carvers ever, Cecil Calnimptewa Jr. Cecil does beautiful dolls and are easily recognizable by the structure of the faces (much more Navajo than Pueblo). He is a very nice man who, like many Native Americans, has hit a rough patch in his life. He had a massive stroke one day and spent hours alone trying to figure out how to get help. He has recovered and is back to carving and working. It is all quite remarkable. Cecil used to carve the Hopi figures, now he focuses his energy on his own Navajo supernatural beings (Kachina House).
