Artist Lecture by Jesse Littlebird

September 16th, 2026

In this artist lecture, Jesse Rain Littlebird (Laguna and Kewa Pueblos) reflects on the experiences, relationships, and turning points that have shaped his evolving practice.

Littlebird traces his path through photography, filmmaking, writing, public art, and painting, while discussing the influence of family, storytelling, Pueblo identity, the New Mexico landscape, and art history. He also shares pivotal moments in his creative life, including the loss of his studio to fire, the passing of his father, and the ways painting has become a means of processing change, grief, memory, and renewal.

Through early works, collaborative projects, and recent landscapes, Littlebird offers an intimate look at how his visual language has developed over time and how personal experience continues to shape the way he sees and paints the world.
