Our Lineage Remains

Ink, gouache, and acrylic on Arches Watercolor Paper, Image: 25"h x 39"w, Frame: 28.5"h x 42.5"w, Item No. 23694,

This piece honors the young men and women who attended Santa Fe Indian School in the time of cultural renewal, lost during previous decades in Native Boarding schools. This renewal began a healing in the arts, returning inspirations in the classroom art studio lead by Dorothy Dunn. The students were from all Nations, encouraged to paint their stories, honor their ways. This piece represents women from the Great Plains, Lakota and Ojibwe, immersed in a grand hall of Santa Fe Indian School, wearing their traditional regalia, surrounded by Pueblo wall murals.
