This image exemplifies a proud Oglala Lakota man standing with strength and wisdom from his ancestors. I used a black and white portrait from photographer Joseph Kayne. With permission from Kayne I transformed his black and white sephia toned photo to a full colored painting. When I first saw this photo it filled me with a dignity and virtue of being Indigenous with ties to culture that existed in this land since time in memorial. I wanted to capture what I felt from this photo and put into this painting which was all the admiration of my fellow Indigenous brothers and sisters who maintain their culture and stay resilient.
