Around the ages of 7 to 9 years old my parents would drop me off at my grandmother’s sheep camp near Tuba City, AZ. I would stay for a few weeks, live off the land, and tend to the sheep with cousins or an uncle. I would explore the vast land, the land was clean and wide open. I would bring along my Star Wars figures to play with during the day. The arid desert landscape reminded me of Tatooine with dry arroyos, sand and sandstone rocks. My imagination becamelimitless as I played with my toys. This painting depicts me as this young child looking up at Jabba’s Sail Barge watching a scene from The Return of the Jedi. The background reveals a Jawa Sandcrawler, Banthas, Jabba’s palace and a Navajo hogan with corral. I fused all these elements together just like playing with my toys in the dirt at sheep camp. I’m wearing a jersey that reads “73”, which is the year I was born.
