RothkoChaco Window No.2

Mixed media on canvas, 36"h x 36"w, Item No. 21479,

Print

A crimson window beneath a bold cobalt lintel draws the viewer’s gaze within a sunlit, yellow backdrop decorated with a natural brick motif. Within the inviting red portal are three horizontal orange stripes, suggestive of the vigas, or rafters, of obscured, enigmatic chambers that lie beyond.

To craft this balanced, abstract expressionist composition, Jesse Littlebird drew inspiration from both the visionary canvases of Mark Rothko and the timeless allure of the ancient ruins of Chaco Canyon. The result is a harmonious fusion of color, texture, and form that invites the viewer to a realm where echoes of the past resonate with exemplary contemporary expression.
