Initiated during his artist residency in Washington D.C. in 2022, Jesse Littlebird’s “Prayers for a Good Winter Up North” is a triptych landscape conceptualized in an open studio during live painting sessions. Speaking on the significance of this triptych during Episode 74 of the Blue Rain Gallery Podcast, the artist shares:
“Early in my career, my work was very intense, without much tranquility. In this piece, I transferred that intense energy to create something more peaceful and beautiful… I get a sense of tranquility, and being grounded, when I’m out in the land. I paint all of my landscapes from memory, and they’re influenced by my sense of place, and by the current season.”
