This painting was inspired by a recent trip to Houston, Texas, where I spent time with the work of Cy Twombly at the Menil Collection. Twombly has long been one of my favorite painters, and seeing his work in person again was both moving and energizing. I am drawn to the lyricism in his paintings, the way they can feel spontaneous and delicate while still carrying tremendous emotional depth.

I painted these flowers soon after that visit, while that experience was still fresh in my mind. In making this piece, I was thinking about gesture, movement, and the expressive possibilities of paint, as well as the quiet vitality of flowers themselves.
