Ha-So-De

This is a portrait of my grandpa, also known as Ha-So-De. He was a painter too, and this piece was more of a study in trying to draw and paint like him. I’ll be honest — I didn’t achieve it. The perfection in some of his lines is something I didn’t quite capture. But in that imperfection, I found expression. My version feels more innocent and childlike, even though I painted it at the age of 34. I think that’s part of the artistic journey — reconnecting with those early memories. I knew my grandpa from 1990 to 1997, and he was always so kind to me. This painting is a tribute to him and a reminder of where I come from.
