Blown and sand-carved glass,
19"h x 12"w x 4"d, Item No. 16000,
This luminous hand blown and sand carved glass sculpture by Preston Singletary represents a mask that would traditionally have been worn by a Tlingit Shaman to appeal to the animal spirit. Animal masks are essential to Pacific Northwest Coast cultures. Singletary's interpretation of these masks transforms a ceremonial object to a contemporary art object.
