Oil on Canvas

Hyrum Joe to Showcase at Blue Rain Gallery

Hyrum Joe continues to create stunning, figurative paintings featuring sharp detail and a strong sense of place. Working with both oil paints and charcoal, he depicts Native American life from the mid-1800s to the mid-1900s. Some of Joe's canvases for the show exhibit his experimentation with a new medium: watercolor. "As an artist, you never stop searching for the one medium you're complete satisfied with," he explains. He uses the same creative process and subjects for his watercolors, but the finished portraits have greater transparency than his deeply saturated oil canvases. Joe is also working on expanding the focus of his work to include portraits of people from the Polynesian and Tibetan cultures.

In the Gallery

A collaborative body of work by two renowned artists, Tammy Garcia and Preston Singletary. The show was a tremendous success for both artists, featuring 21 classical glass vessels which emulate Garcia's pottery. The collaborative work stands testament to the excellence of these two artists. The work exemplifies a great diversity in color, form and design. Collectors from all over the country came to Santa Fe for an opportunity to purchase one of these celebrated works.
