Some of my work builds itself and it takes a bit of time looking at the finished sculpture for me to understand it. I realized a few weeks ago when my IPOD crashed and was awaiting another one that I use the music to keep my brain occupied when I am building. If I leave my brain to think too much while building I think the work tends to be more contrived and cerebral. So I tried not to think on this piace as I built it and I let the dicho I was referencing take the lead. Basically the saying is: No pain- no gain. Literally- No roses without thorns.
